Make a Promo Package for Your Band

by kjr

1040076_musicIf you’re ready to let the world know about you and your band a promo package is essential.  This is just what you need to start getting those local gigs.

There are some pretty basic ingredients involved in the package.  It must include music, pictures, a biography about you or the band and maybe some copies of recent local press coverage, especially if they raved about your recent gig at another local venue or club.

Let’s just outlined the contents of this promo package in a little more detail:

A CD recording of the band taken from a basic studio recording or live rehearsal or a recording while playing live will do the job.  As long as the recording is reasonable this will be ok.  Don’t include more than three or four songs on the CD.  Obviously the best tracks that represent what you do.

You need to include 3 or four pictures of the band in the promo package.  Get someone with any eye for ‘pictures’ to take some shots of the band while in rehearsal or at one of your gigs.   You can then decide what works for the band. A couple of shots of the band all together is a must.

A brief and I mean brief ‘creative’ biog about your music, genre, how the band came into existence and members background will do the trick along with info about gigs played (if you have) and maybe some testimonials, press clippings or quotes will help paint the right kind of picture.

Keep in mind venue owners or management have limited time any probably receive a lot of music every day so try and quickly give a good impression and be professional.  Show them what you’ve got and no more and don’t forget to make sure your contact details are clearly shown so they can get back in touch with you.

Keep an eye on it!

Music Money Link:

You should be able to put together a professional looking promo package reasonably cheaply.  Keep in mind that for a modest investment on your part helping you to get the right kind of gigs will help your fan base grow. You need to try and get fans who attend these gigs onto a mailing list for future promos then you will be able to generate income from selling CDs and other merchandise at these kinds of shows or by further after show promotions.

Call to Action:

Sit down and check what elements you have already got for your promo package.  If something is missing or needs a bit of freshening up plan to get it done over the next week.  If you don’t set a deadline now it may never get done.  Typically what will happen is you get the chance of a gig and they ask for a promo pack!  Now your running around in a panic to get it done!
